[DeTomaso] Door Handle Spring

I am trying unsuccessfully to replace my exterior door handle springs. The original spring does not appear broken as I originally thought. It is exactly the same as the replacement.
The problem is where to attach the spring end to put the handle back under tension ?
Anyone have their assembled handle buckets out that could take some pics? All advice is appreciated.
