There are a few. Two others occurred during Fun Rallys to 'Vegas. One guy
outran the cops and got far enough ahead that he whipped onto a country road
unseen. Unfortunately, he was at the apex of a high speed turn when he crossed a
steel cattle-guard. The front end broke away on the slick steel and he took out
a rather large steel fence post with the passenger door, causing some
consternation with his date.... The cops didn't catch him but the rumor was over
$8000 for bodywork and paint.
The second one involved the entire Colorado contingent one year. Since
several of these cars contained hotted-up 427 FE engines, they were 'motoring
smartly along' when they encountered a speed trap. One perpetrator took off and
outran the Piper Cub spotter plane used in the speed trap. This really aggravated
the police who'd pulled the rest of the group over. Again, the rumor was, the
tickets exceeded $2600 for the 5 remaining cars. The group took the long way
home from Nevada a few days later. No word on what the 'caught' did to the
'runner'. FWIW-
