Peter,

 

As it turned out I noticed some leakage from the lower weep hole and never
went back.

Art,

Ford water pumps typically "suck" to the outside world. IE they suck water
in, and "pump" it into the engine. So, this being the case, the water pump
fitting would "suck" water from the heater core, and the other connections
would "pump" it out of the block (where it was just heated) to the heater
core.

That's my story.....
