I dunno why there are two ports. My heater is currently non-functional; my
car has a U-shaped hose connecting the water pump to the fitting on the block.
FWIW, I think the ports on the pump are two different sizes? My bottom
port (which I believe is smaller, on my Weiand water pump casting) is blocked
off, and the heater hose is connected to the top port on the water pump.

There has been some debate on this forum as to the wise plan for hooking up
the heater. The stock system has hot water coming from the motor, through the
core, and then stopping against the heater valve; opening the valve allows
water to circulate back to the engine. Some people advocate switching the
input and output hoses to put the input so that it hits the valve first; there are
several reasons for this, none of which comes to mind at the moment. If I
remember the discussion here properly, Tomas Gunnerson was a staunch advocate
of swapping the hoses around, and then some other people presented an opposing
view, something to do with the design of the heater valve, or something like
that.
