Many of you who have raced ORR in Nevada and Texas will remember Carl "Pappy" Young.
I just found out today he passed away. Along with Junior he was one of the original open road racers going back to '88.

Pappy always drove the 'other' P-car at SilverState driving his street licensed Porsche (s) at close to unlimited speeds. He was one of the first veteran racers to adopt Team Pantera Racing.

Pappy started the Porsche Wine & Cheese Party at the Silver State and was reknowned for his practical jokes like putting trojan condoms over rookies antenna's or allowing me the 'first' sledgehammer hit to the side door of a Porsche all in the name of charity....what he never told me was he had added some plate steel reinforcement to the back of the door of his parted out Porsche...when my sledgehammer bounced off the door I think my hands vibrated for a week.....he was a hellva competitor and a true friend to the sport of ORR and Team Pantera Racing.

One of the many stories about Pappy was that 3 days after open heart surgery he came back to run at Silver state....of course no one knew at the time he had just had the surgery but as I recall he averaged well in excess to 170 mph. Pappy liked to say he after
flying F-100 and F-105's in Vietnam at tree top level going 170 mph was no big deal...he was one hellva good man and will be missed by all who knew him.
