[DeTomaso] 302 diagnosis

It -is- possible for head gaskets to leak between cylinders without 
disrupting an oil or coolant passage.  However, before you go that far, 
I'd pull the valve covers and check the lift on all the valves.  If the 
cam has been wiped, you won't get the lift you should be and 
consequently won't get the air/fuel charge you should be.  I wouldn't 
just pull head gaskets to be pulling them.  Again, a cylinder leak-down 
test is in order.  This would tell you if you were leaking between 
cylinders.
