Dennis, run a leak-down test. This is NOT the same as a compression test and
will give much more info about engine condition when run by a competent
diagnostician. Yes, it sounds like a valve-seaing problem- or a timing chain.
Smallblocks have the same timing chain issues that Clevelands do, including the
sheared or partially sheared drive-gear roll pin. But due to the shorter chain and
smaller lighter valves, it takes longer for the chain to wear out. How many
