Track experience is good but I got a lot of good experience on an autocross 
course; we autocrossed a club member's car first and then ours for a few years 
which included both race and street tires.   The quick responses needed give 
one an excellent lesson for any surprises on the road.   I did use to laugh at 
the guys that complained about a tight course; they had power steering and I, 
with lot less muscle advantage relied on my strong arm power!   :)

I'll leave it to Jack to recommend sway bars, etc.; other than stock sway 
bars make a LOT of difference in handling - that won us a few trophies.
