[DeTomaso] Does anyone know of a programmable digital warning display on the market that replaces idiot lights?

Our company will be going to field trials (in May) on a cute little box 
with 12 leds across the front,
an RPM input and 8 general-purpose inputs/outputs on the back.

On the upside, it would easily take 7 sensor inputs, turn on LEDs for 
fault conditions and drive a buzzer output.
On the downside it's intended to do more complicated tasks,
like rev limiting, traction control, critical shutdown, limp-home, and 
for the gas-inclined, nitrous valve control,
all running at the same time.
With all that capability, it will list at about $300, which seems pricey 
for an idiot light.

BTW, on #6143 I'm planning to run: rev-limiting, traction-control, oil 
pressure/ oil temperature/ coolant temperature limp-home and shutdown
plus a variable-speed electric water-pump and use the leds for a 
tach/shiftlight, all with one box. That's a bit more value for $300.
There will be an upcoming discussion about using ignition-interrupt for 
rev-limiting.
It's a no-no for sure on cat-equipped vehicles.
