Early cars did. Supposedly, post-'80 wide-body cars had an option of 4.22 or
a 3.77 ring & pinion. FWIW, Mr Butfoy has offered many R & P ratios all the
way down to 2.75: 1 for Bonneville runs. But of course, running a higher-geared
differential will likely require clutch work or a REALLY torquey engine such
as a big-block. A couple of owners have run high-geared ZFs with 351-Cs and
burnt up even good aftermarket clutches.
Happy New Year- 2009 just has to be better!- J Deryke
