Bob Byars, co-owner of Precision Proformance and good friend to all of us in the DeTomaso community, is in the hospital recovering from a serious illness.

This morning Gloria, Bob’s SO, filled me in on Bob’s condition. It’s all a bit of a blur but here’s what I can remember:

For some time Bob had been complaining of shortness of breath and on Monday, December 22, just as he was telling Gloria that maybe he really did need to go see a doctor, he suddenly lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital. There doctors found that a large blood clot had developed in his leg and part had traveled into his lung. They placed a screen “downstream” from the remaining clot in his leg and began aggressively administering blood thinners. Apparently that contributed to a new, unrelated, area of bleeding in Bob’s brain that has now caused additional challenges and doctors are now working hard to carefully balance the two conflicting treatments to get both issues back under control.

Bob is now awake and finally eating small amounts of solid food but is dealing with periods of confusion and somewhat slurred speech. Doctors are hopeful of a complete recovery but, for now, Bob remains in the hospital’s Intensive Care unit.

Please join Bob’s family and many good friends within and outside the DeTomaso community in wishing him a complete and speedy recovery. For those who’d like to send a card here’s Bob’s information.

Bob Byars, Patient
KAISER PERMANANTE HOSPITAL
441 N. Lakeview Ave. Room 704
Anaheim, CA 92807
(714) 279-4000

Because Bob’s in the ICU he can’t accept flowers and non-family visitors but I’m sure he’d appreciate a card along with those good thoughts.

Meanwhile, at Precision Proformance Bob’s brother Don is doing double duty to handle his own restoration and service work along with Bob’s parts and accessories sales.

I’ll be staying in touch with Gloria and will be sure to relay any information I receive to the List.
