It's all down to personal preference. Generally speaking, the L-model cars
had some engineering improvements which made them better cars; however, they
also had a lot of quality taken out by budget-conscious bean-counters, which
made them worse cars.
The early pre-L cars had closed-chamber heads and made more power, but
engines are cheap and by this time, most Panteras have been modified to varying
degrees, so it's impossible to generalize any more. You could find a dog of a
Pre-L or a rockin' sockin' Pantera L.
Most people prefer the appearance of the chrome-bumper cars, but a sizeable
minority prefer the one-piece bumpers.
Really, it's up to you to decide what is important to you, and what you
prefer. You really can't go wrong either way....
