4300 carbs came with and without electric chokes. Both types are covered in
the shop manual.
If you have an electrical tab in the bottom middle of the round choke
housing, you have an electrical assisted choke. BUT, the electrics do not do what
you may think. According to the shop manual, the electrical choke only works
ABOVE 60 degrees and is used to speed up the choke opening. The main heat for
opening the choke below 60 degrees is from the metal tube routed to pick up
exhaust heat.
The main trick is that the choke will only close if you depress the
throttle. Take the air cleaner off, and manually open the throttle. The choke should
close and the fast idle cam should snap into fast idle. This will only happen
if the various pivots and springs are all in working order. After the engine
starts and the choke warms, the throttle must be moved to allow the fast
idle cam to disengage.
