In much of Japanese business the top exec's pay includes a home, a chef, a
car and driver and membership to various clubs which all remain the
assets/property of the company. When the Exec leaves or is ousted he loses
these "benefits". This tends to make their Execs strive for longer tenures
than most US Execs.

Another thing that you will find in Japanese countries is that the CEO only
makes about 7X the salary of the average worker, anything paid above that is
based on profitability in real money, not on paper.
