[DeTomaso] Valve spring height below top of valve stem?

Jack,

I just need a ball park number for the typical distance from the top of the spring to the top of the valve stem (I measured the distance from the spring seat to the top of the valve stem).  Then I'll know how much room I have for springs and I can look at dimensions for the correct retain and make sure it all fits.  Everything is aftermarket, so stock dimensions don't help.

I'm using shaft rockers and will shim them to center the rollers on stem over the range of valve motion.  Looking at the roller to stem contact, and how it changed with rocker height, I can see how someone can get in trouble (especially with hydraulic lifters) if they aren't careful.  It looks like 1/4 inch makes a big difference.

Need a little more info on what you're running. Stock intake valves were
different lengths than stock exhausts and aftermarket valves can be had in
varying
lengths. Aftermarket spring retainers are made to different spring heights
for different valve-stem lengths and for engines using lash caps, and
aftermarket valves are available with varying keeper groove heights and tapers.
All this
influences valvetrain geometry, which is why some engines make more power and
last longer than others with identical parts inside. Cheers- J Deryke
