 Besides the bugs & rain you mention, you also would be
dodging:

Slow wagon trains on interstate headed west to La-La land.
Numerous attacks by Indian warriors shooting real arrows.
Hundreds of buffalo herds blocking I-70 traffic.
Numerous tornados to watch ravage the countryside.

I think bugs & rain would be the least of your worrys. :<)))
