I speak as a relatively new member that has attended two fun rally's and an
eager member of the "it's all about the drive" sub-species of Pantera
owners.

Being in Northern California, with it's abundance of fabulous drives....I
get out to Tahoe, but rarely Reno (little appeal once you get there). Most
of that drive is 80 to Sacramento (one of the worst drives in America)....50
to Tahoe is usually spent watching the bumper of some tourist...the northern
way in is a little better...but involves a lot more of I-80 (yawn).

There are alternatives. For example, head south into Gold Country and take 4
up through Arnold and over the moutains. A beautiful drive.

Bearing in mind that the people that put this event on bust their butts, and
do a fabulous job, The last thing I want to do is make their life even more
encumbered. I don't think this can be emphasized enough. It's trivial for
me to bandy about changes...but I'm not the one doing the heavy lifting.

IF IF IF it's gonna move, or take a one year hiatus, or whatever... I'd like
to suggest San Diego. For a number of reasons.

1 - It's closer to LAX than Reno is to Sacramento for the bean counters to
consider.

2 - A wide variety of things to do for spouses and family. Sea World, Wild
Animal Park, LegoLand, Zoo, Beaches, Mexico, Downtown, Balboa Park, Mission
Bay, Coronado....just to top the list. Oh...and there's shopping and sushi.

3 - It's real close for the San Diego crowd. And closer for the LA crowd.

4 - We still get a fabulous drive from the North....Pacific Coast Highway,
baby!!!!!

5 - For the "drive straight through" crowd, San Francisco to Downtown San
Diego is 70 miles less than Vegas. .

6 - Plenty of fine dining

7 - Reliable weather

8 - An excursion up to Julian for some apple pie would suit me fine.

9 - Oh...and San Diego is a Convention City...with cruise ships...and one of
the great armrest gripping final approaches of any airport in America.

I'd rather do San Diego than Reno. I also like the idea of different
destinations....variety is the spice of life after all....

Still taking up space...but creeping ever closer to the edge...
