[DeTomaso] Side mount race seats

If anybody has installed race shell type seats and fabricated there own mounting brackets I would like to pick your brain.
I am trying to use Cobra seats but the allow side mounts flair out too wide on the passenger side and hit the parking brake support.  They also hold the seats 3/4" or more off of the floor pans, which is desperately needed for head room!
Let me know if you have been down this road.
