[DeTomaso] Oil Filter won't budge

OK, so I go out to do a simple oil change, everything is going fine until I
try that simple task of removing the old oil filter.  I tried my new fangled
vice-grip type remover, won't budge.  I try an old-fashioned loop wrench, it
just depressed the end of the filter until it split and started dripping
oil, which of course left the wrench with no grip and oil everywhere.  I'm
afraid I'm left with driving a screwdriver through it and trying that.

Any suggestions would be helpful.
