Dave was concerned:

Alum heads - antifreeze -What should one do to prevent the chemical
(galvanic?) action in the cooling system??
Is antifreeze enough? Do I need a sacrificial anode?
Any tips/thoughts/theories appreciated.

Dave, Make sure that your ground strap is securely connected trans to chassis, or a second strap, engine to chassis. Leaving none is a sure recipe for disaster. Ask me, I'll show you the parts.... Let's just say that the current will flow to ground thru any means possible!!!!

You can also get "Rad-Caps" radiator caps with a sacrificial anode hanging on them for an easy to use deal. Reasonable price. And they work! I chewed up half of the anode in about 1-2 months until I found that I was missing the ground strap on my Mangusta!!! Only discovered it when I pulled the aluminum Boss 302 factory manifold off and discovered white fuzz (corrosion!) growing on all the water passageway connections to the heads!!!

Put on a ground strap and the anode hasn't (noticeably) changed appearance in several years!

You can also measure voltage drop from your coolant to ground, or for that matter current....set your DVM on tiny....

Steve
