[DeTomaso] expansion tank cap

Lee,

Here's how it works:

The fill/swirl/expansion tank ....... the rearmost tank ..... gets a
pressure cap. On some early cars the neck on that tank, which is slightly taller
than the US standard, required a European style pressure cap. Later cars (like
my '74 #6338), or cars which had been modified use a US style neck and a US
pressure cap.

Here's how to tell if you have the right neck/cap combo:

Set the cap into the neck.

If you must press the cap down against a definite spring pressure and hold
it down as you turn the cap to the locking position, and if the cap pushes
upward when in the locking position you have the correct cap.

If you do not need to press the cap down against a definite spring pressure,
you have the wrong neck/cap combo.

The overflow/recovery tank .... the front most tank .... does not require a
pressure cap. A pressure cap can be used and will cause no problem.

BTW, the hose from the fill tank neck should go to the bottom of the
recovery tank. The overflow hose from the recovery tank should be routed out past
your rear tires. This so if you really do fill the overflow tank and start
puking out coolant, it will cause the guy behind you to spin out instead of you.
Clever, no?

Have fun.
