[DeTomaso] Header Repair

Headers get hotter than heads. Heads are cooled by water. Headers are not.

I doubt that there are many epoxies that will withstand header temps -
although I am not the expert on such things.

I can say, however, that I tried to JB weld a muffler on a lawn mower when I
was a teenager. Not only did it stink of burning epoxy, it hardened,
cracked, and fell off (that sounds dirty).

If you are putting a small layer on the pipe, it might work better than my
lawnmower experience.

Will.

That sure sounds like a lot of work. Maybe a high temp epoxy? They use it
inside the intake ports, that must get pretty hot. But I'd check with the
people doing the coating first. You probably should talk to them anyway,
they may have a good way to deal with this.

After buying a new set of 180's and not being happy with them, I spent
double the money for a set of Byer's Bros 180's. Much nicer than the 1'st
set (which I gave a way for a large loss), but these have deep clamp marks
on the pipes from the bender clamps. They're too deep to grind smooth. Too
much money for shipping/brokerage to return.
Before having them coated (which will magnify flaws), I need smooth out the
imperfections. The only thing I can think of is filling the crevices with
oxy/acet weld rod, then grinding smooth.
Opinions? Headers won't get hot enough to melt the weld, correct? Would
brazing rod work?
