It's also a terrific way to send yourself to the hospital.

That firewall is steel for a reason.   I have personally with my own two eyes 
seen Kirby Scrader's alternator fan come apart like a grenade, and it beat 
the hell out of the inside of his removable STEEL engine cover, enough that it 
took some serious hammering to get it back in shape.   Had that not been there, 
or not been of the appropriate strength, that shrapnel would have come flying 
into the cockpit and done some serious damage.

A clear cover is fine for car shows, but drive there and back with steel 
protecting you.
