True. Besides having to guess at an emissivity factor for the guns on shiny 
stuff, another thing to consider is, most IR guns have a fairly large spot they 
detect, and if you're only a few thousandths off on your target, the results 
can be hundreds of degrees apart on successive shots on the same pipe. I found 
it to be close-to-useless as a temp gauge on headers. FWIW- J DeRyke
