[DeTomaso] Ammeter and voltage regulator question

I would first look for a shunt wire bridging the ammeter terminals.  If you 
turn on the lights, the radiator fans, and the AC fan with ignition on  and the 
engine not running, and you must see a big discharge on the  ammeter. If the 
needle doesn't move big time, something is wrong with that  meter.
 
AutoZone will test alternator diodes and output.
