I remember hearing something about MotorCraft filters actually being made by
Purolater. Anyone know if that is true?

They had horrible quality control problems. They moved production of the
HP-1 offshore to the Philippines. Performance cars with high pressure oil
pumps were literally *exploding* Fram filters when they revved to high rpm.
They
also fell apart internally and sent all sorts of filter debris through the
engine.
They may have corrected these flaws by now. But genuine Ford filters are
reckoned to be the best, or among the best. And nobody else makes a filter
like the FL1-HP with such a heavy-duty case.
