The driveshaft is a two-piece unit, you know.
There is a threaded collar on the large piece, right in the center. Unscrew
that, it slides up, and then you can separate the two halves of the
driveshaft and remove each separately.
BE VERY CAREFUL not to mess up the orientation of these things. They are
lightly stamped with an arrow on each piece to line them up. You would be
better off marking them clearly with paint or whatever. Take them apart, take
them out, then put them back together right away.
Having said that, I've don't remember having the slightest difficulty
removing driveshafts with the exhaust system etc. in place? So I don't know what
you're doing wrong. Perhaps you're just a klutz. :>)
