Mark,

Personally, if your stick is that long, being very close to stock, I'd 
fill up with five quarts of oil (assuming a stock pan) dip it and see 
what comes out.  It might be a replacement tube has been installed and 
you are fine.  Otherwise, check your Ford TSB Bulletin 5, article no. 
34.  It has a detailed description of the circumcision procedure.
