[DeTomaso] gas fumes

The fuel additive MTBE eats up older type fuel lines. The newer lines are a
lot more resistant to MTBE. Since MTBE doesn't biodegrade, MTBE has
contaminated a lot ground water supplies.

This is a VERY good point.  When I first picked up my new Pantera in 
1998 and drove it to Mike Drew's house, one of the first things we did 
was change fuel lines.  The small rubber line transitioning from the 
hard line to the fuel bowl, was old, cracked and leaking on the manifold 
like crazy.  The next year I found the gas filler tube hose was in the 
same shape, filling the tank left more fuel on the ground than on the tank.

They say petroleum products don't biodegrade.
