[DeTomaso] Two questions......

I just got my car this summer and it has a 10 quart pan.   When I bought it I was told not to exceed 8 quarts which I thought was odd.  I have changed the oil twice and 8 quarts puts it at the upper limit of safe.  
I have the yellow handled spiral dip stick and have not measured it.
Does anyone else use 8 quarts?
