Thanks for your effort Mike!

I really think we should be thankful that the dealers take security 
seriously, but occasionally it just isn't practical.

I had a similar problem recently when my daughter bought her first car, 
an old (1995) VW Golf, and it is one of the first to have an 
immobilizer, and an ignition key with a transponder. She only got one 
key, and the previous owner said he also received just one key.

I went to the VAG dealer and ordered a key for the car. After a few days 
they called me back and said that the car was so old that they had 
purged their database and no longer had the required information to make 
a new key, with the proper programming.

Fortunately they did recommend me to go to one of the lock specialists 
in town and they were able to copy the information in the remaining 
key/transponder so she now has two sets of keys, just in case. :-)
