Chris,

The green wire comes from Fuse #8 and provides power to flasher module when
the Ignition Switch is OFF........ like you were parked by the side of the
road. This allows you to verify 95% of all the wiring.

The illumination for the Hazard Switch comes from the instrument dimmer when
the headlights are on and will be fairly dim. There will be just enough
light so you can find the switch in the dark.

When the hazard switch is depressed, the illumination will go to full
brightness and will flash and will cycle with the flasher. If illumination doesn't
go to full bright, either the flasher is bad or the hazard switch is bad
..... assuming all the wires are connected correctly.

With ignition OFF, depress the hazard switch. Pull the flasher unit and
jumper 12V to the upper right hand socket. The turn signals and turn indicator
should now follow the turn signal switch position (but not blink) and the
hazard switch illumination should be at full brightness.if the turn signals work
correctly you have checked out a lot of wiring. If the hazard switch doesn't
illuminate you have a bad hazard switch. The switches are available from BMW
and are also repairable.

Check for 12V at the upper left hand socket of the flasher socket. If you
have 12V (from Fuse #8), release the hazard switch, put the ignition switch in
run, at check for 12V again. If you do not have 12V, the wire from Fuse #12
is missing from Pin #15 of the hazard switch.

When all of the above checks OK, with the ignition OFF, install the flasher
unit and depress the hazard switch, all the lights should flash. If they do
not flash, you have a bad flasher unit. Release the hazard switch, put the
ignition in Run. Turn signal lights should flash only you use the turn signal
switch.

let me know what you find.

Have fun,
