[DeTomaso] FW: Pantera Starter

Thanks, Doug, but currently my starter is OK. I got in a discussion with my friend, Gary, at a business meeting (he has a Pantera, too) and we talked about starters. That's why he sent me the info he did.

What I did when my starter went out was buy a stock starter for about $35.00 or so, then I covered it with that silver, heat-protective stuff with the black goo on one side to protect the starter from the heat. I've been told the heat is why the starter lugs.

So far, the car starts right up with no hesitation since I covered it with the magic heat protector. Of course, it could just be coincidence, too! When the current starter finally fails, I'll probably go with one of the smaller, high-powered units.

By the way, I can't remember if I told you that I sent back the cruise control and got a replacement. It doesn't work either, although at least it tries to work. I'm going to try the vacuum canister attachment (I'm still waiting for it to arrive in the mail), and if that doesn't work, I'll have to return it and go with an electrical (rather than vacuum) one. They're, of course, more expensive.

I appreciate your help in checking all the wiring, though. You helped reassure me I really did hook up all the wires correctly.

In the last couple of days I've driven the car about 200 miles. Even though it still smokes on deceleration, that car is a blast to drive. I've resisted the urge so far, but one of these days I fear I'm going to floor it on I-5 just to see how fast it actually will go!

Sorry I won't be at the meeting Thursday but I have to pick my wife and sons from the airport. They were doing missionary work at an orphanage there.

Sincerely,

Chris
