Net horse-power measured on a dyno is still called 'brake' horsepower 'cause
any dynomometer is actually an 'engine brake' but originally referred to
'water brake' dynoes which can be either engine or chassis type. This was
started
by the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) back100 yrs ago to
differentiate
its figures away from 'calcuated' or 'estimated' horsepower.
Don't worry about the "brake" nomenclature- nothing tricky going on. Cheers-
