Michael,
You're right from the standpoint that I should have added these two
assumptions:
1) The engine must be capable of reaching 8000 RPM with the torque load
present in 5th gear.
2) Tire slippage is negligible.
But given these two additional assumptions, the car will be going 212 MPH.

I have to think at some point that this formula starts too fall apart.
I read that the Bugatti Veyron which goes 253.3 mph uses only 500 hp to
get to 200 and it takes the other 500 hp to get to 253. Wind and rolling
resistance, etc.
