well, i only learned about this from the link on the pantera digest.  re: the "best to just turn it off" suggestion, if you are referring to television, i wouldn't dream of following your suggestion.  because i would have to go out & buy a television, first...  :>)

Doug, it is the same reason the weatherman tells us we are to get 24" of 
snow!  The media sensationalize everything to keep the hype going. 2" of 
snow is not news, damaging a car is not news. Now the end of the 
world...that's news.
