Ford/SVO re-issued these 'rocker-stud-stability' valve covers from the early
'80s. They are shown in the '05 SVO catalogue from Ford. The rocker studs
extend all the way up thru the top of the cast aluminum covers which are made
heavy with thicker sections to brace the rocker studs. Advantages: no stud girdle
needed, and they look trick with black-crackle paint contrasting the 8 chromed
acorn nuts on each cover.
Diasdvantages: the rocker studs come thru the top at odd angles and take soft
copper gasket-washers to seal against conical bottoms of the special acorn
nuts. They don't. The directions advise you to change washers each time a cover
is disturbed. You now have 8 nuts and the one-shot copper gaskets to remove to
pull a cover to access the valves. Finally, the 8 rocker studs on each head ar
e now maybe 5" long and threaded their entire length; most guys that own
these things either have a paid mechanic adjust their valves, or soon buy a set of
deep-point sockets and an air wrench. FWIW- J DeRyke
