[DeTomaso] Trailer Tie Down Points

Sorry if this has already been posted...I didn't read all the posts on the
subject, but this worked when I was towing my McLaren Can Am car back and
forth to the races which had very thin chrome moly tubing for suspension
pieces. Run a four inch wide tie down strap over the top of the tires using
a ratchet type cinch mechanism connecting in the front and back of the tire.
Two ways to hook tie downs...Large U-bolts that are four inches across and
lie flat on the trailer or the flush tie-downs that allow the U-bolt or eye
to pull up about two to three inches to hook the strap to. The U-bolts have
a large hardened washers with lock nuts that connect into a metal frame
member or other appropriate securing point on the trailer. The benefits are
that the tires take all the pressure of the tie down, you never touch a
suspension piece and you aren't putting any fore and aft pull or lateral
pull on any of the suspension pieces, so your alignment never
changes...alignment was measured in thousandths of an inch on the McLaren
and there was never an issue.
Best regards,
Tom Borcich
