[DeTomaso] tire opinion

In general,a small tire on a wide rim , give lesser sidewallflex than a wide
tire on a small rim.You thereby add stability to the car,with a little
sacrifice in ride comfort.The factorys proven combination for the pantera,
should be a guidline.The GTS with 8 inch rims and 225/50x15 tires at
front,and 10 inch rims and 285/50x15 tires at rear. The GT5 and GT5-S with
10 inch rims and 285/40x15 tires at front ,and 13 inch rims and 345/35x15
tires at rear.

It's a good thing I added the IMO then! :-) Seriously, if you look at how a
225/50 tire sits on an 8" rim and then look at a 295 on the same width rim
you have to agree that the latter doesn't look anywhere close to reasonable
form an aesthetic or functional point of view. I'm not arguing that the tire
won't fall off etc.

  FWIW, Toyo lists an 8" wide wheel within their recommended rim width range
for the Proxes S/T in a 295/50/15. 8" is the lower limit and 10" is the
upper limit.

  BFG also includes an 8" wheel in the acceptable "rim width range" for
their 295/50/15 Radial T/A.
