[DeTomaso] Shifter mod

If you remove the trim ring and the vinyl trim around the shifter, you will
find directly rear-ward a round cylinder being held in a hole by a spring
clip.  Push the cylinder down, remove the clip, remove the cylinder, the
spring below, and the piston below that.  the piston has a rounded nose that
presses into a v-shaped groove in the shifter push rod to provide a
self-centering action of the shifter.  The ZF already has a similar
mechanism, so the one in the shifter is redundant.  The two mechanisms don't
seem to mesh well and removal of one makes the whole process smoother.  Best
improvement for the money on a Pantera.

the boot that centers the shifter that , if removed, makes shifting
smoother?
