Thanks for all of this interesting information. I'll check out the numbers
on my 74L (Build date is July 73).

Thanks

Hi Phil

As far as I can tell, the same distributor and carb were used in 1971 for
Cal and 49 state. Carb was D1ZF-FA. Distributor was D0OF-12127-V

In 1972, the distributors were different for California, but the carbs both
seem to be D2ZF-AA. I'll send you a scan from a Ford spec sheet that shows
them all but the list will strip the attachment so it won't show here. Use
the Mustang/Cougar charts. The part number for 72 Cal distributor is
D2ZF-12127-FA. The 49 state is D2ZF-12127-EA.

I have never spent the time to research the 73 and 74 model changes because
I have a 72 pre-L myself, but I suspect that they may also have differences
between Cal and 49 state distributors and possibly carbs too.

It seemed like the Auto makers were running for their lives in these years
to try to meet newly imposed emission controls, so actual specs were
changing quite frequently and often released very late, so others may have
more to add to what I've found. I just don't think anyone else is very
interested in original Pantera carbs and distributors.

Barry
