     It also looks like different altarnators make power at different RPM.  If you want to run the AC full blast with a big stereo in stop and go traffic. you may need to get an alternator that make lots of amps at low RPM.  If you want to drive low impedence injectors at 7000 RPM, it's probably a different story.  Or, maybe just over/under drive the alternator depending on your application.
   
       I got a Delphi race alternator, and it came with a power vs RPM plot.  It's a "100 amp" alterantor, but it's just zero below about 1200 RPM and a little above 50 amps at 2000 RPM.  It crosses 100 amps around 3500 RPM, and is over 100 to over 10,000 RPM (these numbers do not reflect any over-drive).  So, if yoru engine idles at 800 RPM, and you have a 50% overdrive on the alterantor, you're getting zero amps at idle.

The OEM unit was either a 47-amp or a 63-amp MOtorcraft. Both are too small 
to power all the electrics modern Pantera owners seem to find necessary. 
Various years of Ford Motorcraft alternators are externally identical &
mount & wire 
as-stock; some are 100- or 125-amp police assemblies, some have internal 
regulators, all available thru the vendors. With some fooling around, a
1-wire 
GM Delco alternator can be adapted to a Pantera bracket. This last works
best 
if three wires are used so the charge light works & it charges better at low

revs, and this unit has an internal regulator. The vendors also have these
in
