[DeTomaso] [resend] Shock removal

If I wish to remove the front shocks, do I need a spring compressor to
do it? Or will I have enough room if the suspension simply hangs?
Currently, with the front end in the air and the wheels removed, I can't
get any movement. There is enough tension on the components that I
can't budge anything. I know, I should probably keep the wheel on and
the weight of the car on the wheel, but then I can't really see
anything. Maybe I'll go out and buy a set of ramps to put under it.
Anyway. I don't believe the bushings or ball-joints have ever been
replaced. I don't remember seeing anything like that in the receipts,
and everything looks really old. What I can see of the rubber bushings
are very cracked which of course leads me to believe I should replace
them regardless if they are really bad. <sigh> I really didn't want to
get this deep until next year. But darn it, I wanted to drive it this
summer and I'm already several weeks behind due to the steering column.
. . . And I've only got two weeks off from school.
