Maybe someone can explain this to me. It seems to me that there should
be very little need for crankcase ventilation. Except for air in the
crankcase expanding due to it being heated, how much ventilation can we
need? Why is there any need for ventilation once the engine is up to
temperature? It seems that it could work similar to a cooling system with
closed system that would allow air to expand and contract? You have pistons
going down and pistons going up, shouldn't that mean a net need for no air?
Is there enough air that gets by the rings to cause pressure in the
crankcase, and if so, that air would be supplied by the combustion chamber
with no need for air to enter the crank from another source? I'm sure it is
a bonehead question, but I don't get it. What gives?
