[DeTomaso] drive on lifts

When I built my shop back in 2002 I decided to go with a pit instead of a
lift. It's 16' long, 6' deep and 3'feet wide. With more space I would have
purchased a lift as well. My Pantera straddles it easily and makes working
on the bottom side a breeze. A bonus is it also gives my in-laws a place to
stay when they visit (ugh).

I'm running a Superlift 4-poster; I chose that manufacturer since I liked
their enclosed column design with solid captive locks. So far - no problems.
As a footnote, I noticed while at a recent car show that the price of this
particular lift has come down quite a bit from the $2,850 I paid four years
ago. When I asked why the price decrease - I was told that these lifts are
now made overseas (China?) and shipped to US. While they visually looked the
same, I noticed that mine was powder coated; new ones were painted. Also,
the hydraulic components, pulleys, etc. are all overseas parts where mine
are US. I don't know if it makes a real difference or not, but something to
be aware of.

PS: since I end up storing cars on it more than anything, I'm also thinking
about a good two poster for maintenance work. Now let's see...new Campy 17"
wheels; or two post lift. Decisions - decisions.

Matt,
I bought a Backyard Buddy a year and a half ago and have saved the price I
paid for it. You can park another car under it, move it around, work at
different levels, etc. An unbelievable tool it will take a lot of physical
pressure
and exertion off of you as well.
To park another car under it you do need the vertical space,
measure carefully, I would alter my garage if I had to now that I know how
helpful it is.
All the best,
Dick Ruzzin
