YOU Slackers.....the first roads I ever legally ever drove on were in
Washington State....we didn't need cruise control then and you sure as hell
don't need it now on a Pantera. You haven't lived until you have done
sliding off-camber turns through Chuckanut Drive in the rain using your rear
view mirrow for direction control as you look down 1,500 foot drop-offs.

Sometimes it rains in ORR. At the Pony Express one year we had rain,
sleet, snow, thunder and lightening, infestation of millions of Morman
Crickets and finally a forest fire and a Viper burnt up.....ahhhhh, the good
ol' racing days still don't compare with driving in snow, ice and rain in
West Seattle.

When you guys find your nut sacks and Dynamat let me know. We need a few
rookie drivers.

Over here it does rain. Here is the problem as we experienced it. We were
driving through North Carolina one night to my Mothers to pick up our
Daughter. It had rained hard earlier but seemed fine. The cruise control was
on as we were zipping down the dark road. Suddenly we ran into a pool of
standing water. Old school driving (Pre inti-lock brakes) would have you let
off the brakes and ride it out as the car slows. However, the cruise was on
and hitting the water slowed the car down and the cruise poured on the gas
to get the speed back up. By not hitting the brakes the car revved and we
went 180 and landed in the ditch. We were stuck but OK. My wife couldn't
stop shaking for an hour. I have never used cruise control on wet roads
since.

No cruise in the Pantera yet, but it is in the garage

I just had an email from my insurance agent passing along the tale about how
you should not drive with cruise control in the rain as during hydroplaning,
it will cause the car to accelerate and "take off like an airplane".

I know this string ran through the forum a while back, but I'd like to reply
to him with some current responses. Is there any truth to this? It seems
to me that if your tires are loosing traction during hydroplaning, how can
your car go any faster than it already is.

Thanks
