For what it's worth... (and I don't have any commercial interests, etc., etc., yadda yadda yadda... )

I just installed $270 worth of sound proofing material from www.b-quiet.com which is a firm in western Canada. This stuff is superior to the DynaMat products. And they have the independent scientific test results to prove it. The cost is also about 20% of DynaMat for a superior product. And it's darned easy to apply.

I did a "dual" install, I first installed two layers of their composite mat, B-Quiet Extreme, which is a layer of rubberized asphalt with an aluminum top layer. I ran the two layers at 90° to each other, then on top of that, a single layer of their composite noise barrier, B-Quiet Vcomp, which is a 3/8" thick material that's .125" of heavy vinyl, and .250 of foam rubber.

The B-Q Extreme is installed with the rubberized asphalt side facing the noise source, and the Vcomp is installed with the foam side facing the noise source. With this type of installation, a total of three layers, I had a final thickness of 1/2" of material. And what was even better, my total weight was less than an equivalent of DynaMat would have been, and my "install" just about equaled what I removed (felt, etc) in terms of weight. From what I could tell, I had a net zero change in weight by the time I completed the task. I also have a tremendous improvement in sound control now.

I did this method on the floor pan, and the firewall. On the console, the front body panels, and the exterior kickpanels, I used B-Quiet Extreme only. All with the "facing" towards either the roadway surface, or the engine bay. On the bulkhead port cover, I applied two layers of the B-Quiet Extreme on both sides of the cover, and a layer of Vcomp on the passenger cabin side of the cover.

Before I installed this material, I removed all of the original felt-whatever-it-is-was that I could (without getting too industrious). As I installed the Extreme, there was absolutely no problem with the occasional "furry fuzzy felt" area.

The other thing is that the Vcomp must be glued in place, as it has no adhesive layer (not like the B-Quiet Extreme). I used a spray on glue that's designed for cabinet work, followed the instructions, and have had a perfect installation.

I recommend that you investigate this product before purchasing any other sound control products. This is the second car that I've used this material in, and I'll continue to use it whenever I have the need. For both the price, and the performance.

Chris
