[DeTomaso] 86 Pantera GT5s for sale on Craigslist

Steve:

What you are saying is referred to by students of
logic as a tautology, which means that your
conclusion is contained in your premise. It is
not a valid argument because it is circular.

If I sold my Pantera for 1 cent because I failed
to advertise it and chose to take the first offer
that came along, it is not valid to say that
because the market brought only a penny then
that's all a Pantera is worth. If there was
perfect knowledge and no distorting variables in
the market place, then perhaps you might have a
point. However, even a first year economics
student can tell you that perfect knowledge in
the marketplace is not possible and, therefore,
there will always be distortions in prices.

If transportation, duties, tariffs, registration
legalities and other distorting factors were not
creating a barrier to Europeans importing
Panteras from the U.S., then we would certainly
see a greater demand for American cars and,
hence, higher prices. Other factors can trigger
price adjustments, including media exposure for
the marque, or other developments that can
stimulate demand. I think it is entirely valid to
speculate whether demand and, therefore, prices are artificially low or not.
