[DeTomaso] 86 Pantera GT5s for sale on Craigslist

I'd guess that Kirk more or less systematically installed a wing. Now I'm
curious, because the delta wing, a-la Countach, was a factory item while the
Amerisport wing mounted with twin pedestals in the middle of the rear
decklid, like yours.

So I'm guessing that Kirk ordered them wing-less and then drilled the holes
and installed them himself?

As far as how many GT5-S cars were produced, it's a subject that has been
debated numerous times off-list, and the only answer that I believe is
"nobody has the foggiest idea".

The number has to be less than 189, since that is the difference in serial
number between the first and last. However, a handful of GT5 and GTS cars
were built simultaneously, but nobody knows exactly how many. Peter Havlik
has probably the most complete registry of late-model Panteras, and he has
less than half. We'll only know when we have documented 100% of the cars
from 1985 to 1990.

As an aside, I asked the question of Claudia Lodi at the factory about 5
years ago. She went through the build files, car by car, and announced that
there were 89 GT5-S cars built. When pressed, she said that she hadn't
counted the Amerisport cars because there were no build files, but even
adding those cars we still have a number that is too low to be believed.

So if the FACTORY doesn't know how many cars it built, I am skeptical of
anyone who claims to have an authoritative answer. I think the only way to
find out is to count them one at a time, like Peter is doing.

Simple WAG? Around 125-150.

Thanks Charlie,

Here in the US wingless cars are quite rare considering most of them are
Amerisports. From your observations, they are more common overseas. I guess
it must be that wings were the thing to have in the US in the 80s.
Probably some kind of perception that winged cars have to be faster. Do you
have any idea how many GT5-S cars were produced?
