Yep. The harnesses are not DOT approved. However, I have never heard of
anyone getting busted for it on the street. I think the biggest risk is
getting into an injury accident where a passenger could sue you for having
non-DOT safety equipment, even if the harness did not cause any problems.

Okay, so I'm slacking here. I'm looking up info on set belt and
harness equipment for the Pantera (trying to prep for Silver State
next year) and I come across this nice little disclaimer on Summit
Racing's site:
"All seat belts are for off-road use only and are not U.S. DOT
approved for street use. Summit Racing makes no representation or
warranty regarding the ability of this product to protect against
serious injury."
What the hell over? So does that really mean your not supposed to use
this kind of seat belt when you regularly drive on city streets and
public highways?
Seems odd to me.
